Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment
Although Sun International’s supplier sourcing process is primarily a commercial business process, we’re committed to transforming South Africa’s economy through the principles of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Framework. This framework encourages South African black-owned small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) to become suppliers to local and international companies such as Sun International.
Visit our Enterprise & Supplier Development page for more information.
Supplier Criteria
The diagram below provides a summary of the criteria Sun International uses to evaluate and on-board a new supplier for the group.
Those suppliers who are commercially competitive and who meet our optimum B-BBEE compliance, as indicated below, will be our first supplier choice.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve Sun International’s sustainable business model, the group is currently looking at including sustainability aspects, such as environmental, health and safety and corporate social investment criteria, into our supplier evaluation process. More information on these and other requirements will be made available soon.
The Phila Procurement Award
Once a year, Sun International awards The Phila Procurement Award to one of its South African properties that has demonstrated the most improvement in transformational procurement practices. The isiZulu word "Phila" means "live" or "in good health", which speaks to the impact good procurement practices can have on the country and the economy.
Recognising Talent
In addition to achieving the above mentioned accolades, Sun International is proud to be associated with the following programmes:
Smart Procurement World
Sun International is a proud sponsor of the annual Smart Procurement World Enterprise and Supplier Development Expo , providing an invaluable platform to select beneficiaries to showcase their business to the procurement market.
The Township Entrepreneurship Awards
An initiative of the Gauteng Department of Economic Development, recognizes, celebrates and rewards entrepreneurial spirit in the townships, whilst supporting the provinces' goals and commitments to revitalising the township economies. Township entrepreneurs, business owners and co-operatives operating across Gauteng townships are invited to enter the awards.
Sun International is proud to be associated with the Township Entrepreneur Awards, especially as the sponsor of the tourism-related category – we believe it will not only endorse the efforts of worthy entrepreneurs, it will also create a pipe-line of businesses that will feed back into the mainstream economy.
