Don Vino Returns To Grand Arena

Eight Years of Sax Appeal: Why Saxy Vibes Volume 8 is Don Vino’s Most Unmissable Show Yet

Cape Town’s music lovers are in for another electrifying evening as Saxy Vibes Volume 8 returns to GrandWest this June. If you’ve ever been in the Grand Arena when Don Vino raises that saxophone and the first note cuts through the room, you already know the energy that awaits. If you haven’t, Volume 8 is the night to fix that.

Saxy Vibes Volume 8 promises a high-energy atmosphere where rhythm, emotion, and entertainment will collide.

Cape Town's Own, On His Biggest Stage

Donveno Prins grew up in Epping Forest, Elsies River, picking up his first instrument, the banjo, as a kid, before switching to trumpet and then, at just 15 years old, finding his true voice in the saxophone. What followed was a career that would take him from Cape Town’s jazz and gospel circuit all the way to international stages in Europe, Dubai, Australia, and the United States, performing alongside Grammy Award winners Kirk Whalum and LadySmith Black Mambazo, and legendary artists like Jonathan Butler.

But home is always GrandWest

Eight Volumes. One Home Venue

When Don Vino first brought Saxy Vibes to the Roxy Revue Bar in October 2017, it was an intimate, personal show, 160 seats, two nights, a saxophonist telling his own story through music. It was raw, honest, and completely unforgettable. By Volume 3, the Grand Arena was filling up. By Volume 5, the show had become a fixture in Cape Town’s live entertainment calendar.

For years, Don Vino has continued to bring Saxy Vibes back to GrandWest, building a loyal audience that returns for the unique fusion of live instrumentation, dance music, soulful vocals, and feel-good entertainment. The event has become known for creating memorable moments on stage, with guest appearances and collaborations adding to the excitement each year.

GrandWest has been proud to host every chapter of this homegrown success story, and Volume 8 is no exception. This year’s edition aims to raise the bar once again, delivering an immersive live music experience for both long-time supporters and first-time attendees. Audiences can expect “unexpected collaborations and electric moments” throughout the evening.

What to Expect on the Night

Don Vino has always described his show as a journey rather than a set list. “We ease in gently and build as the night goes on,” he has shared. “The real magic lies in taking the audience through all those emotional layers.”

That means you might find yourself swaying through a velvet ballad one moment and on your feet for a dance hit the next. Fresh from his recent tour, Volume 8 promises:

  • Unexpected collaborations with hand-picked musical guests
  • A night of jazz, R&B, gospel, funk and everything in between
  • Super surprises that have become a Saxy Vibes signature
  • Don Vino at his finest: immersive, high-energy, deeply soulful
